8 - Trevor C. : Material Alchemy

Pretty simple--it's a dreamcatcher made out of wire, twine, rope, leaves, and a few beads.

  1. I think this is a very thoughtful piece and uses the idea of turning "nothing" into "something" to another level of cultural heritage. To someone who does not understand what a Dreamcatcher is or functions as, it may seem simply like rope entangled together to form a spider-like web. But for the Native Americans, they used coarse rope and weaved it to form this intricate "symbol" of catching bad dreams and letting the good dreams filter through.

It really shows material alchemy at work and how one's perception may change if they knew the culture / background of such an important piece of work.
