I've always personally felt that coffee tables were one of the most important pieces in a room. It ties everything together and stimulates conversation between people around it (with different things on top of it). Although the table looks very simple, it took very specific calculations and also included a couple recalculations as I ran into various problems (screws crossing, etc). However, all in all, the project was important for me to develop my skills with some of the tools in the workshop and get used to working in a new medium.
I totally agree with a coffee table tying a room together and stimulating conversation, and I think the form of your table- simple and reserved- really enhances its function.
