For the first part of my material alchemy project, I made a Native American halloween costume out of a dress I found at Salvation Army. For the second part, I built a sculpture out of a wooden log to try to explore the disparity between the interior and exterior of the material, and what it might look like for the raw, textured inside of the log to be freed to come outward. I was interested in the interaction between the interior and exterior of something (or someone) in general, and how these two parts, though different, are continuously relating, forming and depending on each other in a very fluid way to form the whole, which I tried to express through the wave-like motion of the sculpture.
