Katherine James : Material Alchemy

I'm still not sure of the best way to display these springs. I almost want them just out and free to be touched and moved around, but I also love them as a wall display or maybe as a hanging piece.

(Sorry the photos are such bad quality--I had to use the camera on my phone.)

  1. I really like this piece and think that one of the great parts about it is the versatility. I feel like it could through several incarnations as different types of installations, or even in one installation have some available to play with and some on the wall.

I love how playful all of the pieces feel. Even though they are similar, for some reason they each seem like their own little playful character interacting with the others. Also, it really feels like you took the material alchemy project to heart and experimented with how you could best transform a single material.

  2. I also really like this piece. They were fun to play with on the table, but I think I like them on the wall even more. It's interesting how the larger ones kind of droop under their weight, while the smaller ones hold their shape well.

I think a hanging piece would also be a good idea. It would probably give a variation in stretch that could be interesting.
